By: Sofia Borges

Carved Duplex comprises a rooftop addition to a brick townhouse in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood. The one bedroom apartment takes over the third floor of the building & expands it upward one level via a Cor-Ten steel box. This residential project explores the phenomenological qualities of living in close proximity to large monoliths in various material forms. Built within a classic New York townhouse shell, the extensive renovation slowly unfolds from a black bedroom on the lower level to a white living room on the upper level….
